Dear energy workers, colleagues, and friends,
Today is your professional holiday. It is very symbolic that it falls on 22 December – a day when the sun prevails, when darkness recedes, giving way to light and energy. May this also be true in our work!
Your efforts lay the foundation for life in the country. The operation of hospitals, transport, communications, water and heat supply, industry, and defense – all of this is impossible without your dedication. Without light, life itself is impossible.
You are the force that moves Ukraine forward while our defenders protect the country on the frontlines.
Despite daily challenges, our energy system continues to function. But the key to its success is not volumes or numbers – it is people – it is you.
For the fourth consecutive year, you have been working continuously under constant risk, often under attacks. Over the past two years, the number of attacks on energy facilities has increased many times, and at certain periods, critical infrastructure was targeted with over 100 missiles and thousands of drones in just a few weeks.
Tragically, more than 160 energy sector employees have died in the line of duty, and hundreds have been injured. We remember each of them and recognize the very high cost of maintaining the resilience of today’s energy system. Despite all challenges, Ukraine’s energy system remains operational. The sector is transforming, and even in wartime, it is moving toward a new level of flexibility and protection, including the implementation of distributed generation projects close to consumers.
I thank the Armed Forces of Ukraine for protecting the light in our homes. I thank the employees of related sectors and international partners who have supported Ukrainian energy from the very first days of the full-scale war. And I thank every energy sector worker for their responsibility and daily efforts.
I wish you good health, safe working conditions, and peace for Ukraine.
