Government Allocates Over UAH 1.6 Billion to Ensure Safety of the Chornobyl NPP Confinement

26 February 2026, 12:02

The Government has allocated more than UAH 1.6 billion from the state budget to carry out works aimed at ensuring the safety of the confinement at the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant. The funds will, inter alia, be directed towards addressing the consequences of Russia’s terrorist attack against the protective shelter of the plant.

Despite the challenging wartime conditions, Ukraine will continue efforts to maintain the three power units of the Chornobyl NPP, the spent nuclear fuel storage facility, and radioactive waste storage facilities in a safe condition.

However, the elimination of global risks is only possible if the Russian Federation ceases its attacks on Ukrainian nuclear facilities.

A clear international response to such acts of nuclear terrorism is required, including restrictions on the rights of the aggressor state within the International Atomic Energy Agency.
