Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko held a bilateral meeting with EU Commissioner for Energy and Housing Dan Jørgensen. The parties had an encounter in Warsaw during the EU Energy Ministers' meeting dedicated to the reconstruction of Ukraine’s energy system and the European integration of Ukraine and the EU.
Special attention during the meeting was given to issues of energy security and the phase-out of russian energy resources.
The EU Commissioner emphasized that the European Union is steadily moving forward with its course to abandon russian gas and is working to meet the energy needs of all member states.
In this context, Jørgensen presented the key provisions of the corresponding roadmap introduced by the European Commission on May 6 of this year.
German Galushchenko, in turn, stressed that Ukraine is offering its underground gas storage facilities to European partners for the formation of gas reserves and stockpiles to serve the entire region. The active use of Ukraine’s underground gas storage and the accumulation of strategic reserves is a necessary condition for achieving the EU’s goal of a complete phase-out of russian gas.
The parties also discussed in detail the pathways and specific aspects of diversifying energy supply for European countries.
