The Minister of Energy of Ukraine, German Galushchenko, held a meeting with France’s Special Envoy for in Ukraine's Relief and Reconstruction Pierre Heilbronn, and the French Ambassador to Ukraine, Gaël Veyssière.
The Minister briefed the French delegation on the current state of the energy system and the consequences of recent enemy attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
“In 2024 alone, the enemy has attacked our energy infrastructure with 1,700 drones and missiles. Despite this, we continue to maintain the integrity of the energy system and ensure its uninterrupted operation. Nuclear generation remains crucial for Ukraine, producing over 60% of electricity. It is important not only to ensure its stable and safe operation but also to further develop nuclear energy as a fundamental and stable source of generation,” emphasized German Galushchenko.
The Minister of Energy noted that equipment purchased through Ukraine Energy Support Fund is being used to restore facilities damaged by russian attacks. He also thanked France for its contribution of €5.7 million to the Fund, which is directed toward the implementation of projects aimed at developing Ukraine’s nuclear energy sector.
The parties discussed other issues related to Ukraine’s energy security and that of the Eastern European region as a whole, including gas supply.
Special attention was given to the current needs of Ukraine’s energy sector and to cooperation projects with French partners on the restoration and rebuilding of infrastructure, the development of distributed and backup generation, and strengthening nuclear energy.
The French side reaffirmed its readiness to continue deepening cooperation with Ukraine in these areas.
