Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko held a bilateral meeting with Joshua Volz, Deputy Assistant Secretary for International Affairs at the U.S. Department of Energy. The meeting took place in Rome on the sidelines of the Ukraine Recovery Conference (URC) 2025.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the current state of Ukraine’s energy system, the challenges posed by russian attacks, potential countermeasures, and ways to strengthen Ukraine’s energy resilience.
They also addressed opportunities for expanding bilateral cooperation following the European Commission’s approval on May 6, 2025, of a roadmap for phasing out russian energy resources by 2027.
German Galushchenko emphasized that the United States is a strategic partner for Ukraine in the energy sector, particularly in the nuclear field. He invited representatives of the U.S. Department of Energy to support initiatives under the IAEA–Ukraine Memorandum on cooperation in Ukraine’s recovery.
Particular attention was paid to the signing of bilateral documents between Ukraine and the American companies Westinghouse Electric and Holtec International, which took place during the URC 2025 in Rome.
The meeting also covered joint projects in the areas of security, cybersecurity, technical modernization, and the supply and storage of natural gas.
It was noted that deepening bilateral cooperation with the United States in these areas is essential for strengthening Ukraine’s energy resilience
