Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine Roman Andarak took part in the latest meeting of the G7+ Energy Coordination Group, where the urgent needs for continued support of Ukraine’s energy sector were discussed.
The online meeting, chaired by Canada within the G7 framework, was attended by representatives of the European Commission, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United States, Poland, the Netherlands, Estonia, and other countries and partners, as well as international financial institutions.
“russia’s attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure continue unabated, resulting in increasing damage to facilities both in frontline and rear regions. Therefore, the issues of protecting and repairing energy facilities, developing distributed generation and renewable energy sources remain critically important,” said Roman Andarak.
The Deputy Minister emphasized that the key priorities in preparing for the next heating season are the restoration, strengthening, and protection of Ukraine’s energy system.
Roman Andarak acknowledged the leadership of Canada and the European Commission in advancing the work of the group and expressed gratitude to partners for their support. He also stressed the importance of further replenishing the Ukraine Energy Support Fund, which has already secured nearly €1.2 billion in confirmed contributions from 33 donors across 22 countries.
Participants also discussed energy sector reforms, integration of Ukrainian energy markets with the EU markets, and further steps to strengthen sanctions pressure on russia, particularly regarding the EU’s phase-out of russian energy resources.
Partners highly commended the heroism and effectiveness of Ukrainian energy workers operating under the conditions of russia’s full-scale war, and assured that the needs of Ukraine’s energy sector will remain a priority for G7+ governments.
