Expanding Ukraine–Türkiye Energy Cooperation: New Opportunities and Challenges

Minister of Energy of Ukraine, Svitlana Grynchuk, held a meeting with the Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Ukraine, Mustafa Levent Bilgen. The parties discussed the expansion of cooperation in the energy sector and the protection of energy infrastructure.

Svitlana Grynchuk and Mustafa Levent Bilgen talked abouit the prospects for developing bilateral projects, particularly in the field of natural gas supply and storage. Special attention was paid to the expansion of the Trans-Balkan Gas Corridor, which enables the transportation of gas to Ukraine from Southeastern Europe and, via the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP), from Türkiye — both for domestic consumption and further delivery to the markets of Eastern and Central Europe.

The Minister informed the Turkish side of the importance of intensifying the work of the Joint Ukraine–Türkiye Energy Working Group to facilitate experience exchange, develop new partnerships, and implement modern technologies. The parties committed to updating the framework agreements by signing a number of documents currently being developed by Ukrainian and Turkish experts.

Ukraine is also interested in applying Türkiye’s experience in the development of distributed generation and in supporting solar and wind energy projects for small and medium-sized businesses as well as households.

The parties also addressed the challenges caused by the armed aggression of the russian federation, which has resulted in large-scale destruction of energy infrastructure. The Minister emphasized the importance of protecting critical facilities and creating equipment reserves for urgent repairs — one of the key areas of cooperation with international partners.

Svitlana Grynchuk expressed her gratitude to Türkiye for supporting Ukraine in strengthening its energy sector and thanked Ambassador Mustafa Levent Bilgen for the constructive dialogue. Both sides reaffirmed their readiness to continue developing energy cooperation based on partnership and mutual understanding.
