Due to Russian shelling, Zaporizhzhia NPP is once again under threat

14 November 2025, 21:25

On 14 November, the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant lost power from one of its two external transmission lines — the 750 kV ZNPP–Dniprovska line, which is the main source of electricity supply for the temporarily occupied plant. This line had only been restored on 23 October after a month-long blackout.

The station’s external power supply is once again at risk. In the event of a complete disconnection from the power system, ZNPP could face yet another — the eleventh — blackout.

It should be recalled that the second line, “Ferospavna,” which supplies ZNPP, was restored only on 8 November. For the first time in six months, the plant had been connected via two high-voltage lines — the main and the backup. Now, due to Russian shelling, the main line has been damaged again.

In total, since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion, Ukrainian energy workers have had to restore power supply to the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant more than 40 times. On 10 occasions, ZNPP has been completely disconnected from the Ukrainian power system.
