Acting Minister of Energy of Ukraine Artem Nekrasov held a meeting with GIZ representative and Head of the H2Diplo Project in Ukraine, Julian Weiman. The parties discussed opportunities for cooperation in advancing hydrogen projects and implementing Ukraine’s Hydrogen Strategy through 2050.

The discussion focused on the preparation of pilot initiatives, potential applications of hydrogen in industry, transport, and the energy sector, strengthening energy security, diversifying energy supplies, developing Ukraine’s export potential to the EU, and creating a domestic market for hydrogen consumption and local generation.

Artem Nekrasov emphasized that the development of hydrogen energy remains one of the Ministry of Energy’s priorities in the context of transforming the energy sector, particularly following systemic attacks by the Russian Federation on critical infrastructure.

“Ukraine is at the beginning of its energy transition, and hydrogen is one of its key pillars. We are interested in joint projects, experience exchange, and engaging the expertise of our international partners,” he stated.

Julian Weiman outlined the activities of the H2Diplo project, implemented with the support of the German Federal Foreign Office and aimed at fostering the hydrogen economy. The project supports Ukraine in reducing emissions, exchanging technological knowledge, training personnel, and strengthening business ties between Ukrainian and European companies.

Following the meeting, the parties agreed to continue coordinating their efforts, particularly in developing a strategy for the hydrogen sector, participating in joint events, and involving Ukrainian experts in international training programmes.
