Denys Shmyhal on Ukraine’s Unity Day: Unity Has Been, Is, and Will Remain Our Greatest Strength

Today, Ukraine celebrates Unity Day.

On 22 January 1919, the Ukrainian People’s Republic and the West Ukrainian People’s Republic united into an Independent and United Ukraine.

“Millions of Ukrainians demonstrated unity for the shared desire to live in one state. Unity has been, is, and will remain our greatest strength — in repelling Russian aggression, protecting our homeland, and restoring what has been destroyed,” emphasized First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal.

Thousands of energy workers from different regions are working around the clock today, traveling to where help is needed, restoring damaged networks and power plants to reconnect Ukrainians to electricity and heat, the Minister noted.

“Unity today is reflected in the daily work of repair crews, energy workers, and all those who care. Unity is about shared responsibility and mutual support. When businesses help people stay warm. When businesses turn off bright lights and advertising so that more homes can be reconnected to power,” he added.

Denys Shmyhal stressed: “Unity is when the energy system works as a single whole despite attacks and destruction. We thank everyone who unites and reconnects — the brave, courageous energy workers operating under extremely difficult conditions. We thank the Ukrainian military for their daily protection. Together, we will endure! Glory to Ukraine!”
