First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine – Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal delivered a lecture to students of Metropolia University of Applied Sciences in Finland, where he spoke about the challenges facing energy infrastructure during the full-scale war and Ukraine’s experience in ensuring the resilience of its energy system.
During his address, the Minister emphasized that under current conditions energy infrastructure has become one of the key strategic security assets.
Denys Shmyhal outlined the main lessons Ukraine has learned during the years of the full-scale war, particularly with regard to building a multi-level protection system for energy facilities, introducing new approaches to energy system planning, developing distributed generation, and establishing equipment reserves.
Particular attention was paid to contemporary security challenges for critical infrastructure.
“Today, long-range drones are capable of reaching almost any point in Europe. Therefore, resilience must be embedded directly into the architecture of critical infrastructure itself,” Denys Shmyhal stated.
The First Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Energy stressed that Ukraine is not only overcoming unprecedented challenges today, but is also developing practical experience and solutions in the field of energy security that are important for the whole of Europe.
