First Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Energy of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal held a meeting with the leadership of Kherson region and heads of energy companies to discuss preparations for the upcoming autumn-winter period.
During the meeting, participants coordinated the pace of restoration works and the construction of protective structures at energy infrastructure facilities. Denys Shmyhal stressed that all planned works must be completed on schedule and that clear tasks have been assigned to all parties involved.
“We are delivering a high-capacity power transformer provided by Japan’s JICA to one of the communities in Kherson region. This will enhance the reliability of electricity supply and strengthen the resilience of the region’s power system. We are also preparing the procurement of three additional power transformers with the support of UNDP,” Denys Shmyhal said.
Particular attention was paid to the region’s additional equipment needs.
“Procurement of critical equipment for energy companies in Kherson region worth a total of €27.1 million has been approved through the Ukraine Energy Support Fund. Contracts worth €13.1 million have already been signed. Part of the equipment has already been delivered or is currently being delivered, including power transformers, battery storage systems, specialised vehicles and emergency response vehicles. Additional equipment for Kherson region is also planned under the SPARC programme, funded by the United States Government,” Denys Shmyhal noted.
He also emphasized that the transfer of modern energy storage systems to frontline regions is continuing in order to strengthen the resilience of electricity supply.
“Each frontline region will receive a 1 MW battery energy storage system to meet critical needs. We are currently delivering such equipment to Kharkiv region. Today, we also agreed on supplying storage systems to Kherson and Mykolaiv regions. I would like to thank our Swiss and Swedish partners for providing a total of eight battery energy storage systems that will help the power system operate more reliably and respond more effectively to fluctuations in demand,” the Minister said.
The meeting also covered the implementation of the Ray of Hope project in Kherson region. Five healthcare facilities in the region have joined the programme. Technical documentation is currently being prepared for all participating hospitals to enable the installation of solar power systems.
