First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine – Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal participated in the Ukrainian-German Business Forum chaired by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Federal Chancellor of Germany Friedrich Merz. The main topics of the dialogue were defence and the needs of Ukraine’s energy sector.

Denys Shmyhal stressed that Ukraine urgently needs energy equipment to restore damaged facilities, strengthen energy security and prepare for winter. This includes transformers, turbines, generators, high-voltage equipment, cables and other critical components.

The Minister of Energy thanked Germany for its practical and financial assistance, including its contribution of EUR 250 million to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund.

“This is an important contribution to helping us prepare for the next winter amid Russian attacks. At the same time, we must also look to the future. Our goal is to build a modern, resilient energy system fully integrated into the EU. We encourage direct cooperation between Ukrainian and German companies, including agreements on the production and timely delivery of critical equipment, technology transfer, and joint restoration and modernisation projects. A total of 15 documents worth EUR 8.5 billion were signed following the roundtable,” Denys Shmyhal noted.

The First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine – Minister of Energy emphasised that Germany is one of Ukraine’s most important and reliable partners.

“We have strong cooperation in energy and the economy. German support has helped us restore damaged infrastructure and strengthen the resilience of our power system. I sincerely thank Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy Katherina Reiche, the German Government, German businesses and the German people for supporting Ukraine in these difficult times,” Denys Shmyhal stressed.
