Denys Shmyhal Met with a Delegation of the Atlantic Council

First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine – Minister of Energy of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal held a meeting with a delegation of the Atlantic Council headed by John Herbst. The meeting focused on the current situation in Ukraine’s power system following Russia’s missile and drone attacks, the vertical gas corridor utilising Ukrainian underground gas storage facilities, and the continuation of joint projects in cooperation with the United States.

Denys Shmyhal recalled that, according to the latest estimates by the World Bank, the needs for recovery of Ukraine’s energy sector amount to USD 90.6 billion.

“Ukraine requires foreign investment for recovery and modernisation. Promising areas include decentralised generation, nuclear energy, and the development of cogeneration,” the First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine – Minister of Energy stated.

He also noted that the Ministry, jointly with the World Bank, is currently working on an updated Energy Strategy that will define a new vision for the sector’s development. He emphasized the Ministry’s expectation of close and productive cooperation with the Atlantic Council.

Denys Shmyhal expressed his gratitude to John Herbst and other members of the Atlantic Council delegation for visiting Kyiv during this challenging time for Ukraine and for their consistent support in international fora. He also stressed that the Russian Federation must be held accountable for attacks targeting heat and electricity supply during severe frost conditions.
