First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine – Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Ukraine Masashi Nakagome and Chief Representative of JICA in Ukraine Osamu Hattori. The parties discussed the consequences of the recent large-scale attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, urgent recovery needs, and key reforms and priorities in the energy sector. Particular attention was paid to strengthening the operational capacity and resilience of state-owned energy companies.
During the meeting, Denys Shmyhal noted that Ukraine highly appreciates Japan’s support and the role of JICA in strengthening the country’s energy security and resilience.
“Our partners have already provided 137 high-capacity generators, transformers, gas equipment, and other machinery. Today, this assistance supports our cities – Kyiv, Cherkasy, Dnipro, Odesa, Sumy, and Kharkiv. Deliveries of generators to Zaporizhzhia, Poltava, and Zhytomyr regions are ongoing,” said Denys Shmyhal.
The First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine – Minister of Energy thanked the partners for allocating funds for the procurement of specialized equipment for Kharkiv, Mykolaiv, and Zaporizhzhia regions, as well as for approving additional purchases for Ukraine’s energy sector enterprises. According to him, this assistance is critically needed at this time.
“We count on fruitful cooperation with the Government of Japan and are discussing new projects. We are already preparing for the next winter season, and I am grateful to our partners for their support,” emphasized Denys Shmyhal.
