18 February 2026, 21:05

First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine and Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal met with U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright on the sidelines of the IEA Ministerial Meeting to discuss the prospects of energy partnership between Ukraine and the United States. Following the meeting, the ministers agreed to work on a future Energy Deal.

Key areas of cooperation include:

  • Supply of U.S. liquefied natural gas (LNG): The most effective tool for this is the Vertical Gas Corridor, an existing route whose capacity can be further expanded.
  • Use of Ukraine’s gas transmission system and underground gas storage: Strategic partnership in this area can create additional opportunities for the U.S. to supply LNG to the region, especially in view of the planned phased reduction of Russian gas imports.
  • Nuclear energy: Cooperation with the U.S. in the nuclear sector is strategically important for Ukraine, particularly regarding the implementation of advanced American technologies.

“Grateful to the United States for its extremely important support!” – emphasized Denys Shmyhal.
