First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine – Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal welcomed Brice Roquefeuil, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the French Republic to Ukraine, on the occasion of the start of his tenure in Kyiv. They discussed strengthening the resilience of Ukraine’s energy system, supporting critical infrastructure and accelerating the implementation of joint projects.

In particular, the parties discussed expanding grant support for the implementation of additional projects in the regions. Denys Shmyhal thanked France for its contributions through the Ukraine Relief, Recovery, Reconstruction and Reform Trust Fund (URTF) and the Ukraine Energy Support Fund, which have enabled the procurement of transformers and the strengthening of the physical protection of energy facilities.

Nuclear energy was another key area of discussion, including the modernization of Ukraine’s nuclear power plants, diversification of nuclear fuel supply routes, development of uranium resources, digitalization of equipment monitoring and strengthening nuclear safety. As the Minister noted, preparations for the upcoming Conference in Paris are also underway.

“We count on France’s active role in mobilizing international support for the restoration of the New Safe Confinement at the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant, as well as its active participation in coordinating the Energy Ramstein format and preparing the next meeting. We are grateful to France for its consistent support for Ukraine and its significant contribution to strengthening Ukraine’s energy system,” Denys Shmyhal emphasized.
