First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine – Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal, together with Head of the State Property Fund Dmytro Natalukha, held a meeting with the management of Centrenergo PJSC, Ukrvuhillia SE, and state-owned coal mining enterprises to discuss coal supplies for thermal generation in preparation for the winter period.

According to Denys Shmyhal, if thermal power plants operate at full capacity, Centrenergo’s monthly coal demand will range from 250,000 to 400,000 tonnes. Therefore, it is already essential to clearly plan resource balances, logistics, reserve formation, and long-term coordination among all participants in the state sector.

“Our priority is to ensure that state-owned power generation enterprises primarily use state-produced coal. This is a matter of the country’s energy resilience, support for Ukrainian miners, and preservation of more than 8,000 jobs,” the Minister of Energy emphasized.

At the same time, he noted that such cooperation must remain economically justified and operate in line with market principles.

Denys Shmyhal instructed energy companies to develop possible cooperation mechanisms to ensure stable and uninterrupted utilization of state-produced coal and to strengthen the resilience of the power system during the autumn and winter period.
