First Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Energy of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal held an online meeting with World Bank Managing Director of Operations Anna Bjerde to discuss the next stage of their joint work and key priorities.
Denys Shmyhal announced that the Ministry of Energy and the World Bank are moving to the next phase of developing the updated Energy Strategy of Ukraine.
"For more than four months, our teams have been working on a new Energy Strategy — a document that will shape the future of Ukraine's energy sector for decades to come," said the First Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Energy of Ukraine.
According to Denys Shmyhal, a comprehensive assessment of Ukraine's energy balance, generation and consumption structure, as well as the sector's challenges and recovery prospects, has already been completed. Based on this work, the key principles of the Strategy were developed, presented during URC2026 in Gdańsk, and received positive feedback.
The next step, he noted, will be the preparation of a Concept Paper that will serve as the foundation of the updated Energy Strategy. The document will provide a detailed vision of how Ukraine's energy sector should develop in the coming years and outline the pathway to achieving these objectives.
"This autumn, we plan to present the first draft of the document for public discussion in Ukraine, followed by consultations with our international partners. It is also important for us that the updated Energy Strategy becomes the foundation for building an international investment portfolio to support the recovery and modernisation of Ukraine's energy sector," Denys Shmyhal said.
The First Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Energy of Ukraine emphasized that implementation of the Strategy should become one of the key pillars of the new Special Program for Ukraine Recovery 2.0 (SPUR 2.0) platform, which the World Bank is developing together with its partners. This will help attract additional investment for the implementation of strategic energy projects in Ukraine.
"I am grateful to the World Bank for our productive cooperation and continued support. Together, we are not only rebuilding what has been destroyed, but also laying the foundation for a strong and energy-independent Ukraine," Denys Shmyhal said, thanking Anna Bjerde.
