First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine and Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal held a meeting with Lithuania’s Minister of Energy Žygimantas Vaičiūnas, who is visiting Ukraine on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Chornobyl disaster.

The Head of the Ministry of Energy thanked his counterpart for visiting one of Ukraine’s energy facilities that has been repeatedly targeted by Russian attacks.

Denys Shmyhal emphasized that Ukraine highly appreciates Lithuania’s energy assistance. Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion, Lithuania has delivered 356 shipments totaling 6,000 tonnes. These included power transformers and other critical equipment. In addition, Lithuania has contributed €5.7 million to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund, which has been used to procure essential equipment for restoring district heating networks.

During the meeting, the ministers discussed the transfer of equipment from decommissioned Lithuanian power plants. Denys Shmyhal expressed gratitude for the assistance already provided, noting that the experience of the Vilnius CHP plant has demonstrated the effectiveness of this mechanism, and expressed hope for continued cooperation in relation to other facilities.

The First Deputy Prime Minister also briefed his counterpart on plans to develop distributed generation, noting that Lithuania possesses both the companies and expertise that could contribute to this effort.

“Lithuania remains our reliable and strategic partner. We are grateful for all the support provided, which has helped us withstand three difficult winters,” Denys Shmyhal stressed.
