First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine – Minister of Energy of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal held an online meeting with Parviz Shahbazov, Minister of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan. They discussed the current situation in Ukraine’s energy system and the practical implementation of agreements reached between the leaders of Ukraine and Azerbaijan — Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Ilham Aliyev — in Munich.

“Ukraine has already begun preparations for the next heating season. Our priorities include the development of cogeneration and ensuring sufficient gas reserves. Therefore, further diversification of gas supply routes is of particular importance. We have every opportunity to advance in this direction,” Denys Shmyhal stressed.

He also noted that Ukrainian gas storage facilities are capable of accommodating a strategic reserve for Eastern Europe, while Azerbaijani gas resources could become an important component of this reserve.

Another key area of cooperation between Ukraine and Azerbaijan is strengthening collaboration between private energy companies and the public sectors of both countries.

The parties also agreed to explore the possibility of organizing rehabilitation programmes for children of Ukrainian power engineers. Azerbaijan is already implementing similar initiatives for the families of Ukrainian servicemen.

The First Deputy Prime Minister expressed gratitude to the Republic of Azerbaijan for its consistent support:

“Azerbaijan was among the first countries to begin providing humanitarian assistance to Ukraine following Russia’s full-scale invasion. The value of energy equipment assistance exceeds USD 11.76 million. In January alone, we received 11 high-capacity generators, transformers, and other equipment from Azerbaijan. We are sincerely grateful for this timely and highly valuable support,” Denys Shmyhal emphasized.
