First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine – Minister of Energy of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal, during a working visit to the United States, held a series of meetings with representatives of major American businesses. The parties discussed joint projects in the nuclear sector, the supply of U.S. LNG, joint oil and gas production, and other areas of cooperation.
In particular, Denys Shmyhal expressed his gratitude to Dan Lipman, President of Global Business Initiatives at Westinghouse Electric Company, for the implementation of a unique project and exemplary cooperation. Together with Westinghouse, Ukraine has fully replaced Russian nuclear fuel with American fuel.
“We already have agreements on the supply of reactors and long-term heat removal systems, as well as confirmed intentions regarding the construction of new power units and localization of fuel assembly component production in Ukraine. This will allow us to fully meet Ukraine’s annual needs by 2028, contributing both to energy security and economic recovery. We will jointly implement advanced technologies and develop the nuclear sector,” Denys Shmyhal emphasized.
During a meeting with Anatol Feygin, Executive Vice President of Cheniere Energy, Denys Shmyhal congratulated the company on the tenth anniversary of its first LNG exports. Cheniere is currently one of the leading U.S. LNG producers and exporters, with successful experience of cooperation with Ukraine. There is significant potential to increase gas supplies to Ukraine and diversify routes to Europe. As noted by the Minister, Ukraine is ready to offer its logistics capabilities and infrastructure for these purposes.
Denys Shmyhal also held a meeting with Philippe Piron, CEO of the Electrification segment at GE Vernova, and Chief Corporate Officer Roger Martella. GE Vernova is a global energy company combining generation, grid solutions, and renewable energy, and is already implementing a number of joint projects with Ukrainian energy companies. The parties discussed Ukraine’s priority needs, including transformers, substation equipment, innovative grid stabilization solutions, and gas turbines. Ukraine is interested in concluding long-term contracts with the company and expanding cooperation in nuclear energy, renewables, and professional knowledge exchange.
During a meeting with Michael Polsky, founder and CEO of Invenergy, the parties discussed joint renewable energy projects. Ukraine is interested in building a long-term strategic partnership with the company and exchanging expertise.
“We highly appreciate the continued support and interest of leading international companies in the recovery and development of our energy sector. We are grateful to partners already working with and in Ukraine and remain open to dialogue with all those willing to jointly strengthen our energy resilience,” Denys Shmyhal emphasized.
