First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine – Minister of Energy of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal, within the framework of the CERAWeek forum in Houston (United States), discussed with international partners the strategy for the development of modern energy systems and the recovery of Ukraine’s energy sector.
“Ukraine will build a renewed energy system that is better protected and more resilient to Russian attacks. The protection of energy facilities must become a priority for every country, as Iranian and Russian drones and missiles can reach any point in Europe,” Denys Shmyhal stated.
The Minister shared Ukraine’s experience in countering Russian energy terror and outlined key priorities: protection of energy infrastructure, decentralized generation and diversification, and the creation of strategic reserves.
Denys Shmyhal also presented plans for the development of “energy cells” — autonomous clusters capable of operating independently through local generation.
In addition, he outlined prospective projects and investment areas, including gas and oil production and transportation, the development of renewable and nuclear energy, and the modernization of energy infrastructure.
The Minister called on international companies to join efforts in the recovery of Ukraine’s energy sector and the joint development of a new energy architecture for Ukraine and Europe.
Denys Shmyhal also emphasized the importance of diversifying energy supply sources, including gas, oil, and nuclear fuel, in order to reduce dependence on Russian energy resources.
The Minister expressed gratitude to international partners and representatives of the energy business for a productive discussion and their continued support for Ukraine.
“I am grateful to Carlos Pascual, Senior Vice President for Global Energy at S&P Global, Geoffrey Pyatt, Senior Managing Director for Energy and Critical Minerals at McLarty Associates, Joshua Volz, Special Envoy of the U.S. Department of Energy, as well as representatives of Ukrainian and Polish companies for the productive discussion. I thank everyone who supports and assists Ukraine,” Denys Shmyhal added.
