On the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine – Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal held a meeting with UNDP Administrator Alexander De Croo. They discussed the key needs of Ukraine’s energy sector ahead of winter and agreed on further joint steps.

As Denys Shmyhal noted, with UNDP support, equipment for more than 500 MW of distributed, highly flexible generation has already been delivered to Ukraine. Ukraine counts on the support of its partners to ensure its rapid installation and commissioning.

“We highly value UNDP’s assistance in procuring critical equipment for Ukrainian energy companies and expect 12 power transformers to be delivered as scheduled,” the Minister of Energy noted.

Energy resilience at the community level is another important area of cooperation. The parties discussed tools to expand municipalities’ opportunities through grant and concessional financing mechanisms, as well as to attract private investment in own generation and energy infrastructure.

“We are grateful to UNDP for its continued support and reliable partnership with Ukraine. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, UNDP has mobilised approximately $718 million in international assistance to restore and strengthen Ukraine’s energy system,” Denys Shmyhal emphasised.
