On the sidelines of the Energy Forum in Baku, First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine and Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal met with Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of the Republic of Türkiye Alparslan Bayraktar. The parties discussed the current situation in Ukraine’s power system and the country’s needs in preparation for the next heating season.

Particular attention was devoted to the implementation of agreements reached between President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and President of Türkiye Recep Tayyip Erdoğan regarding energy partnership and the strengthening of security in the Black Sea region.

“We have significant potential to deepen cooperation both at the intergovernmental level and between our companies. In particular, we are interested in establishing a new gas supply route utilizing Ukraine’s gas transmission system and underground gas storage facilities. This project could provide up to 5 billion cubic metres of gas annually not only for Ukraine but also for the countries of Central and Eastern Europe. We are already working on its commercial and technical framework,” Denys Shmyhal stated.

The parties also discussed prospects for the joint development of gas fields in the Black Sea.

Denys Shmyhal thanked Türkiye for its openness to cooperation and its readiness to transform existing potential into concrete solutions aimed at strengthening energy security and economic partnership in the Black Sea region.
