On the sidelines of URC2026, First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine — Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal held a meeting with UNDP Administrator Achim Steiner. The parties discussed the next steps and areas of cooperation aimed at preparing Ukraine’s energy sector for the upcoming winter and addressing its priority needs.

Denys Shmyhal thanked UNDP for its assistance in humanitarian demining and veterans’ reintegration. He noted that the Ministry of Energy is currently developing a project to create employment opportunities in the energy sector for veterans.

The parties also identified key priorities for future cooperation, including continued procurement of equipment for restoration and strategic reserves, the construction and rapid commissioning of new flexible generation capacity, strengthening the physical protection of energy infrastructure, and building sufficient energy resource reserves.

“We highly appreciate UNDP’s leadership in mobilizing international support for the restoration of Ukraine’s energy sector. Thanks to contributions from nine donors, nearly USD 300 million has already been mobilized, and this work continues. In coordination with its partners, UNDP is also implementing new distributed generation projects in frontline regions,” Denys Shmyhal said.

He expressed his gratitude to UNDP for its consistent support and strategic partnership with Ukraine.

“We highly value our joint efforts and count on UNDP’s continued support in preparing Ukraine’s energy sector for the coming winter,” the Minister emphasized.
