First Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Energy of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal, during a working visit to the United States, held a meeting with U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright. The parties discussed the situation in Ukraine’s energy system, which has been damaged by Russian attacks, as well as recovery priorities.
In particular, the discussion focused on attracting USD 1.4 billion in credit support from the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) to upgrade energy equipment, primarily in the gas production sector, as well as strengthening cooperation with the U.S. Export-Import Bank.
Special attention was given to increasing gas and oil production in Ukraine with the involvement of U.S. companies. The parties also discussed the development of the Vertical Gas Corridor, the advantages of using Ukrainian gas storage facilities, and the development of the Odesa oil terminal for transportation to Europe.
Denys Shmyhal also informed about ongoing negotiations with U.S. companies regarding alternative diesel supply sources and emphasized that Ukraine counts on the support of the U.S. administration in this matter.
The Minister expressed gratitude to the United States for its consistent support:
“We appreciate the recent decision to allocate an additional USD 276 million to support Ukraine’s energy sector. This assistance enables us not only to withstand current challenges but also to build a new energy security architecture,” he noted.
