Denys Shmyhal Discussed Energy Recovery and Preparation for Next Heating Season with G7 Ambassadors

The First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine and Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal held a meeting with G7 and EU ambassadors to discuss Ukraine’s energy recovery and preparation for the upcoming autumn-winter period.

Denys Shmyhal briefed the diplomats on the challenging energy situation caused by ongoing Russian attacks, highlighting key priorities: restoring generation, substations, and networks, as well as forming reserves of equipment and capacities. He emphasized the current need for large generators and transformers.

“Ukraine has already started preparing for the next heating season, forming fuel reserves. Assistance from partners is particularly valuable here. Our goal is the development and expansion of cogeneration,” Denys Shmyhal stated.

The First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine and Minister of Energy expressed gratitude to the G7 countries for humanitarian support. Since 26 January, Ukraine has received over 560 units of energy equipment from various countries, including G7 nations. A total of 1,152 tons of equipment have been distributed from Ministry of Energy hubs to support hospitals, social infrastructure, and the State Emergency Service. Shmyhal stressed that aid is arriving regularly, while needs continue to grow.

He also highlighted Ukraine’s interest in receiving decommissioned but usable energy equipment from partners.

Denys Shmyhal thanked the G7 for contributions to the Energy Support Fund of Ukraine and discussed creating a Ukraine Energy Support Coordination Group, modeled after the defense “Ramstein” format, with preparations for such a meeting underway.

Participants also discussed strategic initiatives for Ukraine’s energy sector: digitalization, efficiency improvements, privatization, and corporatization.The First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine and Minister of Energy invited partners to participate in rebuilding the energy sector and thanked them for coordinated support.
