First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine and Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal held an online meeting with Lars Aagaard, Minister for Climate and Energy of the Kingdom of Denmark.

During the meeting, Denys Shmyhal briefed his Danish counterpart on the severe situation in Ukraine’s energy sector caused by Russia’s targeted attacks on energy infrastructure, in particular thermal power plants and combined heat and power facilities that provide heating to the population.

Denys Shmyhal expressed his gratitude to Denmark for its continued support of Ukraine’s energy sector. To date, Ukraine has received more than 90 tonnes of energy equipment from Danish partners.

He noted that Denmark was the first donor to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund and that the Kingdom’s total contribution to the Fund has reached EUR 67.8 million. The newly announced contribution of EUR 5.4 million was described as particularly important.

The First Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that the key priority at present is the development of distributed generation. He informed his colleague about Ukraine’s urgent needs, including generators and cogeneration units.

Denys Shmyhal also stressed that Ukraine is ready to share its experience of rapid energy system recovery with partners and invited Danish businesses to actively participate in the restoration and reconstruction of Ukraine’s energy sector.

For his part, Lars Aagaard reaffirmed Denmark’s commitment to continued support for Ukraine.
