First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine and Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal took part in the Congress of the Federation of Trade Unions of Ukraine.

In his address to participants, the Minister of Energy stressed that during the past winter, more than 15,000 workers from the energy sector and related critical services restored electricity supply to homes and businesses under exceptionally difficult conditions following Russian attacks.

“People are the state’s unconditional priority. Therefore, all changes, reforms, and transformations must be focused on the needs and prospects of every Ukrainian citizen,” Denys Shmyhal stated.

He emphasized that energy security rests on three fundamental areas of work:

The well-being of professionals who sustain the functioning of critical infrastructure.
For their demanding work during the winter, repair crews received additional payments. Efforts are underway to address wage arrears and consider salary increases.

The safety of personnel working at critical facilities.
Protection is a fundamental element of the energy system. To strengthen it, fortifications and shelters are being built, air defence measures enhanced, and electronic warfare systems deployed.

Preparation for winter.
Of the 9 GW of capacity lost this winter, energy workers have already restored nearly 4 GW. A strategic reserve of equipment is being formed, while both energy infrastructure and water and heat supply facilities are being restored. New energy capacities are also being developed by state-owned enterprises and private businesses.

“Together, we have already endured four difficult winters. I am confident we will prevail through the fifth as well. Light will prevail!” stressed the First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine and Minister of Energy.

Following the vote, the Congress elected veteran and combat participant Serhii Byzov as Chairman of the Federation of Trade Unions of Ukraine. Denys Shmyhal congratulated the newly elected Chairman on his appointment and expressed confidence that his experience and expertise would contribute to the continued reform and development of the trade union movement.
