During a working visit to the Dnipropetrovsk region, First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine – Minister of Energy of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal, together with the Head of the Regional Military Administration, Oleksandr Hanzha, and with the participation of Members of Parliament, mayors, and heads of local communities, chaired a meeting with executives of fuel and energy sector enterprises to review the region’s preparations for the upcoming autumn-winter period.
The Minister heard reports on the key areas of work, including infrastructure restoration, construction of protective facilities, and the establishment of strategic equipment reserves.
According to Denys Shmyhal, preparations are proceeding according to schedule. During the meeting, the participants identified the priority tasks required to ensure the region’s readiness for the heating season, the implementation of which will be monitored by the Ministry of Energy.
The discussion also focused on the region’s critical needs and financing requirements.
“As of today, procurement of critical equipment for energy companies in the Dnipropetrovsk region worth a total of EUR 234.3 million has been approved through the Ukraine Energy Support Fund. Contracts amounting to EUR 129.4 million have already been signed,” Denys Shmyhal said.
The Minister also noted that this year the Ministry of Energy’s emergency assistance hubs had delivered 178.1 tonnes of humanitarian aid to the region, including batteries, generators, transformers, energy storage systems, and other essential equipment. An additional 12 generators and two energy storage systems are currently en route.
Furthermore, the Ministry continues to coordinate cooperation with international partners. According to Denys Shmyhal, together with UNDP, the Ministry plans to procure a power transformer for one of the region’s combined heat and power plants. In addition, 14 generators have been delivered to the region with the support of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
Implementation of the Ray of Hope project is also ongoing. In the Dnipropetrovsk region, 13 healthcare facilities are participating in the initiative, with three hospitals already generating their own electricity. The total installed capacity of solar panels at these facilities amounts to 400 kW.
