First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal held an online meeting with Poland’s Minister of Energy, Milosz Motyka.
Denys Shmyhal thanked the Polish side for its strong and consistent support. He noted that the Government of Poland has delivered 141 humanitarian shipments of energy equipment and contributed EUR 3.1 million to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund. He also expressed particular appreciation for the Polish public’s initiative to raise funds for generators, describing it as a clear demonstration of solidarity and humanity.
During the meeting, Denys Shmyhal briefed his counterpart on the current situation in Ukraine’s energy system and the consequences of ongoing Russian attacks on critical infrastructure.
The First Deputy Prime Minister outlined Ukraine’s urgent needs for energy sector recovery and discussed potential areas for further cooperation. In particular, he proposed intensifying efforts to increase the capacity of cross-border interconnections.
The ministers also discussed strengthening cooperation in the gas sector within the framework of the “vertical gas corridor.” In addition, Denys Shmyhal proposed establishing an expert working group at the level of the World Bank to support the development of clean coal generation projects between Ukraine and Poland.
Separately, both sides underscored the importance of prioritizing energy sector projects in preparation for this year’s Recovery Conference in Poland.
