First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine - Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal met with First Vice President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development Greg Guyett, with participation of representatives of Ukrainian state-owned energy companies.

They discussed the current situation in Ukraine’s energy system and the consequences of today’s Russian attack.
“The most difficult situation is in Kyiv and Kharkiv. As a result of enemy shelling, Ukraine has lost a significant portion of its electricity generation. We are working to compensate for the deficit through distributed generation and are supporting communities implementing such projects,” Denys Shmyhal said.

Ukraine’s cooperation with the EBRD in the energy sector includes 13 projects, covering gas production support, restoration of power grids and hydropower plants, and strengthening nuclear safety.

Special attention was paid to infrastructure protection and the resources required for recovery, as well as to natural gas imports to meet the needs of this and the next winter season. Denys Shmyhal thanked the EBRD for allocating EUR 500 million to Naftogaz of Ukraine for gas purchases, as well as for an additional EUR 85 million provided by Norway. “This support has made it possible to secure the necessary volumes of gas. We look forward to further cooperation in this area,” he noted.

The Minister also announced ongoing preparations with key partners to sign new public-sector projects, including a EUR 90 million loan for NPC Ukrenergo, as well as a decision on the temporary reallocation of EUR 160 million for natural gas procurement.

Denys Shmyhal expressed gratitude to the EBRD for its vital financial assistance, which strengthens Ukraine’s energy sector and supports recovery following Russian attacks.
