First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine – Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal held a meeting with Federal Minister for the Environment, Climate Action, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety of Germany Carsten Schneider during his visit to Kyiv.
Together with representatives of Ukrainian and German energy companies, they coordinated joint steps by Ukraine and Germany to strengthen Ukraine’s energy resilience and deepen the strategic partnership between the two countries.
Denys Shmyhal and Carsten Schneider discussed nuclear and radiation safety. The Head of the Ministry of Energy thanked Germany for its attention to the restoration of the New Safe Confinement at the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant following the Russian attack and expressed hope for Germany’s continued leadership, support and expert assistance in this area.
The First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine – Minister of Energy also noted that the meeting addressed opportunities for the prompt provision of equipment needed for restoration efforts, including from Germany’s reserve stocks.
“I am grateful to our German partners for their readiness to support us in developing renewable energy, deploying energy storage systems, supplying the necessary equipment and training Ukrainian specialists,” Denys Shmyhal said.
The meeting also addressed the development of B2B partnerships between Ukrainian and German companies. The participants emphasised the significant potential of this area. In addition, Ukraine sees Germany and German businesses as important partners in developing cooperation in the biomethane sector and facilitating the integration of Ukrainian manufacturers into the European market.
Denys Shmyhal thanked Germany for its continued and systematic support for Ukraine.
“Germany has already delivered 348 humanitarian shipments to Ukraine, comprising more than 3,600 tonnes of critically important equipment. Germany’s contribution to the Energy Support Fund exceeds EUR 500 million. We highly appreciate this assistance and look forward to further deepening our cooperation,” the Head of the Ministry of Energy stressed.
