Denys Shmyhal: All Installed Cogeneration Units Must Be Operating to Meet Consumer Needs

A regular meeting of the Headquarters for the Elimination of the Consequences of Emergencies in Kyiv and the Kyiv region was held under the chairmanship of First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine and Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal.

“The situation in the energy system remains difficult, with a significant capacity deficit. However, thanks to coordinated actions by Ukrenergo and distribution system operators, we are seeing a trend toward partial stabilization,” Denys Shmyhal emphasized.

Regarding electricity supply, the head of the Ministry of Energy noted that in the coming days a gradual transition from emergency outages to hourly outage schedules is expected. “Our task is to move to predictable schedules involving up to three to four outage groups. We are also forming additional reserve crews to reinforce operations,” he said.

Denys Shmyhal also reported that a comprehensive verification of cogeneration units across Kyiv and the Kyiv region has been conducted.

“We have clearly identified their total number and technical operability. At present, only one third of the commissioned capacity is actually supplying energy to the grid. We are working on this issue in coordination with local authorities. All units must be operating,” he stressed.

Energy workers, in close cooperation with other services, continue active efforts to restore electricity and heat supply to people as quickly as possible.
