During a working visit to Brussels, the Minister of Energy of Ukraine, German Galushchenko, held a meeting with the Director of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Enlargement and Eastern Neighborhood (DG ENEST), Jan Koopman.
The parties discussed issues related to ensuring the region's energy security, particularly the supply and creation of new strategic reserves of natural gas.
The Minister informed the European Commission representative that Ukraine continues to maintain the stable operation of its fuel and energy sector despite constant russian attacks, noting that the enemy is now focusing on strikes against gas infrastructure, particularly gas production.
"We are already thinking ahead and preparing for the next winter. One of the key issues is gas injection into storage facilities. Ukraine has the largest gas storage facilities in Europe, which can allow for the formation of reserves that will ensure the security of supply not only for Ukraine but also for Moldova, Slovakia, and other countries in the region," German Galushchenko stated.
In addition, in the context of energy security, an important topic of discussion was further cooperation on European integration and the unification of the electricity markets of Ukraine and the EU.
The parties also discussed the implementation of the repair campaign and the restoration of energy supply following damage caused by russian attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure.
