This assistance is part of a broader CAD $70 million (nearly UAH 300 million) support package.
The announcement was made by Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Anita Anand and Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Tim Hodgson during a joint briefing on the sidelines of the G7 Energy Ministers’ Summit, which was also attended by Ukraine’s Minister of Energy Svitlana Grynchuk.
“Beyond emergency assistance, we are also developing a long-term partnership with Canada. I discussed this in detail with Minister Tim Hodgson and Canada’s Special Representative for Ukraine’s Reconstruction, Chrystia Freeland. As a result, we signed a Declaration of Intent with the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of Canada,” noted Svitlana Grynchuk.
This marks the beginning of a new stage of cooperation between Ukraine and Canada, with priorities including the restoration of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, development of nuclear energy and renewables, partnership in the oil and gas sector, energy efficiency, and innovation.
The parties plan to launch a number of joint initiatives, promote the involvement of Canadian private investment in Ukraine’s energy sector, and strengthen mutually beneficial partnerships between companies from both countries to implement projects and exchange experience and technologies.
“Canada is already supporting Ukrainian companies and involving them in joint projects. On the sidelines of the Summit, the Government of Canada announced a CAD $14 million investment in a clean-tech and critical-minerals project with Canadian mining technology company Focus Graphite, which also includes a Ukrainian engineering company,” said Svitlana Grynchuk.
The Minister expressed gratitude to Canadian partners for their willingness to work together effectively and for their steadfast support in helping Ukraine resist Russia’s energy terror.
