The Government of Canada has contributed an additional 33.4 million euros (50 million Canadian dollars) to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund. As a result, the country’s total contribution to the Fund has increased to 40.1 million euros (60 million Canadian dollars). Canada has also pledged a future contribution of 6.7 million euros (10 million Canadian dollars).

"We thank Canada for its continuous support of the Ukrainian energy sector, provided since the first days of russia’s full-scale invasion. Contributions to the Energy Support Fund are directed toward purchasing equipment necessary for restoring energy facilities after enemy attacks and ensuring the stable operation of Ukraine’s energy system," said the Minister of Energy of Ukraine, German Galushchenko.

A portion of Canada’s new contribution will be allocated to supporting energy supply for critically important social infrastructure in the healthcare sector by developing solar generation systems.

“As russia continues its ruthless attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure, leaving millions without electricity, water and heat, Canada is proud to strengthen its partnership with the Energy Community Secretariat to continue the important work it is doing to help Ukraine repair its critical infrastructure,” stated the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada.

"Canada's increased contribution highlights our unwavering support for Ukraine's energy sector during these difficult times. This assistance will help Ukrainian energy companies restore essential inventory and maintain stable operations. It's a strong show of international solidarity for the Fund, which has shown to be an effective mechanism for addressing Ukraine’s needs,” said the Honourable Ahmed Hussen, Canada’s Minister of International Development.

It is worth recalling that the Ukraine Energy Support Fund was established in April 2022 through the joint initiative of Minister of Energy German Galushchenko and European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson under the Energy Community Secretariat.

Currently, announced partner contributions to the Fund exceed 1 billion euros. The Fund’s donors include the public and private sectors from over 30 countries, including EU member states, the United Kingdom, and the United States, as well as international and regional organizations.

Since its establishment, the Fund has become an effective instrument for providing international assistance in the energy sector, enabling Ukrainian energy workers to restore energy facilities after russian attacks, carry out repairs, and install new capacities.
