A regular meeting of the Emergency Response Headquarters in Kyiv and the Kyiv region was held under the chairmanship of the First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine and Minister of Energy, Denys Shmyhal.
Denys Shmyhal stated that the situation in the energy sector remains extremely challenging and that there is a risk of further deterioration of power outage schedules. He explained this by the consequences of the latest strike and the fact that the generation deficit in the power system remains significant. At the same time, Russian forces are preparing new attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure in the coming week.
Despite this, restoration works are ongoing across all regions. More than 230 repair crews are working in Kyiv, including 40 additional teams from Naftogaz. At the same time, the Head of the Ministry of Energy stressed that local authorities must provide people with clear information on where and within what timeframes heat supply will be restored. In buildings where restoring heat supply is not possible in the near term, electricity must be provided for at least 18 hours a day.
“We are intensifying cooperation with all partners to receive energy equipment. More than 30 countries are already providing support to help Ukraine get through this winter. I am grateful to everyone who is helping and to energy workers for their tremendous efforts,” Denys Shmyhal emphasized.
