Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine for European Integration Anatoliy Kutsevol met with Osamu Hattori, Chief Representative of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Office in Ukraine.
During the meeting, the parties reviewed the available reserves of assistance already provided by JICA, its distribution across regions, and Ukraine’s current needs to strengthen energy resilience. JICA has transferred 137 generators to Ukraine, some of which have already been delivered to Kyiv and Cherkasy, with further deliveries planned to other regions. In addition, the Agency has agreed to procure 62 power transformers and nearly 6,500 gabions.
“This support is critically important for Ukraine during the winter period, given Russia’s targeted attacks on energy infrastructure and attempts to provoke a humanitarian crisis. I am grateful to Japan and JICA for their consistent and practical assistance in strengthening energy resilience and restoring our energy infrastructure. We highly value JICA’s close cooperation and flexibility in addressing challenges and deploying equipment,” Anatoliy Kutsevol emphasized.
Osamu Hattori reaffirmed that support for Ukraine’s energy sector remains one of JICA’s key priorities. The parties therefore discussed Ukraine’s additional urgent needs for equipment. Anatoliy Kutsevol noted that ensuring sufficient supplies for rapid repairs and the formation of strategic reserves is currently a top priority.
The parties also agreed to assess the most urgent needs of social infrastructure facilities in order to jointly explore opportunities to enhance their energy independence.
