Anatoliy Korzun Participates in Events Honoring the Chernobyl Disaster Liquidators

Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine Anatoliy Korzun took part in events marking the Day of Honoring the Participants in the Liquidation of the Consequences of the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant Accident. Together with the leadership of the State Agency of Ukraine for Exclusion Zone Management and representatives of industry enterprises, he paid tribute to the liquidators who, at the cost of their lives and health, contained the consequences of the accident and ensured the safety of future generations.

The commemorative events were also attended by First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Kornienko, Minister of Health of Ukraine Viktor Liashko, Minister of Social Policy, Family and Unity of Ukraine Denys Uliutin, Chair of the Temporary Special Commission of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Strengthening Social Protection of Citizens Affected by the Chornobyl Disaster and the Use of Radioactively Contaminated Territories Arsenii Pushkarenko, President of the NGO “Union Chornobyl Ukraine” Ivan Yatsenko, Acting Head of the State Agency of Ukraine for Exclusion Zone Management Volodymyr Feshchenko and Deputy Head Oleksii Budyk, as well as management and staff of enterprises under the Agency’s authority, invited liquidators, and members of parliament.

In Kyiv, the commemoration ceremony took place at the Memorial Mound “To the Heroes of Chornobyl.” In the exclusion zone, the events began in the village of Cherevach near the monument to employees of enterprises under the Agency’s management who died in the Russian-Ukrainian war. Participants observed a minute of silence and laid flowers in memory of the fallen.

In the city of Chornobyl, the delegation visited the Park of Glory and laid flowers at the Memorial Wall bearing the names of liquidators and exclusion-zone employees who contributed to ensuring the safety and viability of the territory. The delegation also honored the liquidators at the monument “To Those Who Saved the World” and at the Memorial “To the Heroes of Chornobyl” located at the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant industrial site.

A meeting was also held at the Chornobyl NPP industrial site, where participants discussed social protection for citizens affected by the Chornobyl disaster, as well as the progress of works to restore the New Safe Confinement. Within the framework of the Temporary Special Commission, the views of public organizations engaged in protecting the rights of Chornobyl victims were heard.

“The liquidators are the people who gave Ukraine and the world a chance to avoid an even greater catastrophe. We have a duty to preserve the memory of their feat, to support those who live among us today, and to do everything possible to ensure that such tragedies never happen again,” Anatoliy Korzun emphasized.

The state will continue to implement measures to preserve historical memory and to support the liquidators whose contribution to Ukraine’s security has been decisive.
