Today, the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) lost its external power supply for the twentieth time since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Due to military actions by the Russian Federation, the plant lost connection to the Ferrosplavna-1 (330 kV) transmission line.

Following the incident, emergency diesel generators automatically started to provide backup power for reactor core cooling and to maintain other critical nuclear safety functions at the facility.

The Ministry of Energy of Ukraine once again emphasizes that through its military actions in Ukraine, particularly around the Zaporizhzhia NPP, Russia continues to create threats to global nuclear safety and security. The only way to prevent a catastrophe at Europe’s largest nuclear power plant is the complete demilitarization of the site and its return to the full control of the licensed Ukrainian operator.
