Within the framework of the 69th Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency held in Vienna, Minister of Energy of Ukraine Svitlana Grynchuk held a meeting with IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi.
The key topics of discussion were the Agency’s support for Ukraine’s nuclear sector and energy resilience, the current situation at the Zaporizhzhia NPP, and the restoration of the integrity of the New Safe Confinement over the Chornobyl NPP.
Rafael Grossi emphasized that nuclear safety and security of the ZNPP remain a priority for the Agency. Opening the Conference, the IAEA Director General noted that since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the Agency has sent more than 200 missions involving nearly 200 staff members to Ukrainian nuclear power plants.
“We value the contribution of IAEA missions to guaranteeing Europe’s nuclear safety and rely on the continuous presence of experts at Ukrainian plants,” Svitlana Grynchuk stressed.
During the conversation, the parties also touched upon plans for the development of nuclear generation and the implementation of modern technologies. Despite all challenges, Ukraine continues to move in this direction and relies on the experience and partnership with the Agency in these strategic efforts. Joint work within the framework of the Memorandum of Cooperation signed with the IAEA on the sidelines of the Ukraine Recovery Conference (URC2025) in Rome plays an important role.
“I thank the IAEA and Rafael Mariano Grossi for their support. We face many challenges and complex tasks, but I am convinced that only by joining efforts can we ensure nuclear safety in our country, in Europe, and worldwide,” summarized the Minister of Energy of Ukraine.
