Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko held a bilateral meeting with EU Commissioner for Energy and Housing Dan Jørgensen in Brussels on the sidelines of the meeting of the Council of Energy Ministers of the European Union member states.

"From the first days of the full-scale war, Ukraine's energy sector has been a target of russian attacks—no energy system has ever faced such trials. Amid continuous russian attacks on energy facilities, 2024 has become the most challenging year for Ukraine’s energy system. We have now endured our third wartime winter—our most difficult one. The enemy’s attacks on critical infrastructure continue. However, we have successfully overcome this winter and continue restoration and development. Our experience in managing the energy system during wartime and adapting the market to emergency situations should be studied by European partners to strengthen the energy security of all of Europe," said German Galushchenko during the meeting.

German Galushchenko briefed the European Commissioner on the consequences of russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy sector, the measures taken to restore and maintain the resilience of the energy system, and the sector's current needs.

The Minister of Energy emphasized that Ukraine, as a future EU member, is interested in strengthening the European Union’s energy security architecture. One of the key directions for achieving this goal is the integration of Ukrainian energy markets with EU markets.

The parties highlighted the importance of the European Commission’s announced package on energy security and integration, which includes the full integration of Ukraine’s electricity market with the EU by spring 2027, financial support for gas purchases, and support for renewable energy development.

"We suggest that EU member states use Ukrainian storage facilities for their strategic gas reserves, which will contribute to strengthening the energy resilience of both European partners and Ukraine," stated German Galushchenko.

During the meeting, participants also discussed gas transportation, supply diversification, and measures to prevent obstacles in cross-border gas trade.
