Ukraine's Minister of Energy, German Galushchenko, held a meeting with the Polish Minister of Climate and Environment, Paulina Hennig-Kloska. The meeting took place in Warsaw as part of the international Rebuild Ukraine 2024 conference.
The key topic of discussion was joining efforts to assist Ukraine during the current heating season.
"We understand that the enemy will continue to attack, and the consequences for the energy system are difficult to predict at this point. In this context, commercial electricity imports from European countries and the possibility of emergency assistance will be of significant importance," said German Galushchenko.
The Minister of Energy thanked partners for the decision to increase the maximum capacity for electricity imports from EU countries to 2.1 GW starting December 1, and emphasized the importance of further developing the infrastructure for cross-border connections, particularly with Poland.
Paulina Hennig-Kloska assured that Poland is ready to continue supporting Ukraine, specifically in consolidating efforts within the EU to help Ukraine through the winter.
The parties also discussed cooperation in the context of European integration. German Galushchenko highlighted Ukraine's interest in gaining expert support from Poland, particularly in integrating energy markets and adapting Ukrainian legislation to European standards.
The prospects of deepening cooperation in the nuclear sector were also discussed, with the involvement of Ukrainian expertise in the development of Poland's nuclear generation.
The Minister of Energy thanked Poland for its support of Ukraine's energy sector amid the devastating russian attacks on energy infrastructure, particularly at the interstate and international levels. The parties also discussed the needs of Ukraine's energy sector for recovery and the importance of enhancing cooperation at the level of energy companies.
